This chestpiece on my very close friend Sam symbolizes her personal growth and finding independence. The torn and mended wings symbolize struggles and hurt along the way that have been healed or still healing. The moth's wings are turning into black lace at the bottom, which serves as a symbol of classic femininity. She chose a moth over a butterfly because of the moth's status as the underappreciated, less celebrated--yet still beautiful and strong--of the two insects.
